Or even registration statistics, in which we learn of a little known and far off (for most here) land.

Norway, home of EVs, because the government there can use its income from fossil fuels to incentivise them heavily.

Last year and as you might not be surprised Tesla figured heavily in Norway’s car sales stats. This year then Tesla continued their winning ways and hoovered up an even larger percentage of the Norwegian market. J a ? Nei . Not even close.

Let’s dig into the stats which live !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! albeit in Norwegian.

For the period to May 2019 Tesla had a market share of an impressive 14.1% and were market leaders. This year they managed just 3.2% and were no 13 in the market. Market leaders this year are VW with 12.9% on their own, another 11.7% with Audi and 5.7% with Skoda, giving 30.3% excluding Seat who hardly feature in Norway at all. The individual best seller is the Audi e-Tron which has attracted one Norwegian buyer in ten this year. So what’s gone wrong with that nice Mr Musk’s “disruptive” outfit? What’s disrupted them? Two things to my mind. One is that in 2019 a backlog of Model 3s arrived representing years of orders, the other is the bursting sound of a bubble as the early adopters now have their Tesla and the ordinary punter is less enthused.

Who’d have thought?

No, the EV in the plates isn’t a coincidence. It replaced the previous EL and EK and has in turn been followed by EB. You don’t have to have plates letting everyone know you have an elbil , but it’s usual.

Sometimes I forget that Tesla is an American car. Then I think of all the build quality grievances I’ve heard about and I remember again. Still pretty neat though. They’ve certainly grown on me anyway.

What’s curious about Tesla in Oz is that they are not members of the automaker s association that reports sales numbers...so they don’t report sales figures. If one wants to know their numbers you’d have to aggregate State vehicle registration numbers...and no-one has got time for that. I think the g uesstimate is they sell a hundred or so cars each year...pretty insignificant compared to the other EV options.

And hybrids were 9.4% of the sales.
